An Unmissable Journey into the Future of Sound and Vision.
Berlin is about to be transformed by the highly anticipated ‘OPENLESS’ festival, taking place from August 23-25, 2024. Hosted by ‘Berlin Atonal’,this groundbreaking event promises to push the boundaries of music and art, spanning four of the city’s most iconic venues—Kraftwerk, Tresor, Globus, and OHM. With a focus on innovative performances and world premieres, this year’s festival is set to offer an unparalleled fusion of creative expression. As artists from around the globe converge on Berlin, ‘OPENLESS’ will showcase a dazzling array of new works and collaborations, making it a must-attend event for enthusiasts and industry insiders alike.
At the core of ‘OPENLESS’, the Kraftwerk power plant will host three nights of operatic concerts, featuring a staggering 15 world premieres. These performances are set to redefine the landscape of contemporary art, blending groundbreaking audio-visual experiences with innovative live acts. The festival’s diverse programming extends to Tresor, Globus, and OHM, where 25 club acts will deliver an exhilarating range of sounds, accompanied by two high-energy afterparties at OHM.
This year’s festival features an impressive array of talent and unique shows.
Brazilian-American producer Doctor Jeep will showcase his distinctive blend of techno, dancehall, and minimal drum & bass. Simo Cell, known for his prowess in the DJ scene, will present a rare and exciting live performance. Togolese rapper and activist Yao Bobby will collaborate with Swiss artist Simon Grab, offering a transformative exploration of rhythm and voice. Berlin’s own Assyouti and multi-instrumentalist Falyakon will also take the stage, bringing their dynamic and eclectic sounds to the forefront. Swedish-born, London-based Aircode will present her reverb-drenched sonic landscapes, while Vivian Koch will navigate the realms of bass-heavy music and techno. Additionally, 2K88 will infuse Polish rap influences with dark, club-oriented sonics.
The festival will feature several remarkable world premieres. A Forbidden Distance, a groundbreaking collaboration by Saint Abdullah, Eomac, and Rebecca Salvadori, will explore themes of identity and displacement through a powerful blend of audio and visual artistry. The Drum and The Bird, by Forensis (Forensic Architecture) and Bill Kouligas, will present a multi-sensory performance that combines environmental audio, oral testimonies, and spatio-visual modeling to confront the legacy of colonialism. Multidisciplinary artists Kelman Duran and Franziska Aigner (FRANKIE) will debut their high-profile collaboration, drawing on their extensive experience and past achievements. In a celebration of Senegalese musical heritage, Nkisi, Lamin Fofana, Shackleton, Holy Tongue, and LABOUR will create new works honoring the legacy of Doudou N’diaye Rose, a master of the Sabar drum. Finally, Demdike Stare will return with their enigmatic A/V show Baselines, continuing their tradition of experimental and genre-defying music.
“OPENLESS” 2024 is set to be a transformative festival that will captivate audiences with its bold explorations and artistic innovations. As Berlin prepares to host this exceptional event, it promises to be an unforgettable convergence of music, art, and groundbreaking creativity. Don’t miss your chance to experience the future of art and sound.
