TO WATCH: “HALTLOS” BY KIDA KHODR RAMADAN
Martha (Lilith Stangenberg) feels like an outsider. Her mother is a strong, successful…
Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage star in a dark, suspenseful journey into the mind of a serial killer
On August 8th, “Longlegs” opened in theaters, preparing audiences for a chilling ride. Directed by the masterful Oz Perkins, this psychological thriller brings together a captivating story, intense performances, and a sinister atmosphere that promises to leave audiences on edge.
The film stars Maika Monroe – in our opinion one of the most exciting newcomers of this year – as Special Agent Lee Harker, a young and intuitive FBI agent thrust into the spotlight. Harker is assigned a daunting case involving a mysterious serial killer known as “Longlegs“, portrayed by Nicolas Cage. For over 30 years, Longlegs has orchestrated a series of horrifying murders, where fathers are driven to slaughter their families before taking their own lives. The only clue left behind is a cryptic letter marked with occult symbols and signed by the elusive killer.
As Harker delves into the case, she discovers that Longlegs has been taunting her with cryptic messages, creating a tense and personal game of cat and mouse. Her investigation reveals not only unsettling connections to occult practices but also a disturbing personal link to the murderer. With Longlegs preparing to strike again, Harker finds herself in a race against time to stop him before it’s too late.
“Longlegs” is more than just a thriller; it is an exploration of fear and psychological tension.
The film’s strength lies in its ability to build a pervasive sense of dread, reminiscent of modern horror classics like “It Follows and Hereditary”. Director Oz Perkins and his team have crafted a film that transforms ordinary settings into sources of intense fear, from interrogation rooms to suburban homes and isolated farms.
Monroe’s portrayal of Agent Harker is both nuanced and compelling, revealing a character who is both vulnerable and resilient. Nicolas Cage’s performance as Longlegs adds a chilling intensity, with distinctive traits preventing him from becoming a mere caricature of evil. Together, they bring a depth to the story that enhances its emotional impact. (Quite apart from that: in Maika Monroe we also found one of the most up-and-coming and exciting actresses of the year on screen!)
“Longlegs” is a standout film, offering an immersive experience that will stay with you long after the credits roll. Don’t miss this chance to experience a modern thriller that promises to redefine the genre – definitely a must-watch!
